Goal

A leading automotive development services provider wanted to fundamentally modernise its internal knowledge management on SharePoint. The goal was to give page editors a flexible layout system that goes beyond SharePoint's standard capabilities, and to automate recurring processes through Nintex workflows.

Tasks

  • Project structure setup including package managers (Anaconda, npm)
  • Customisation and extension of the client's SharePoint environment
  • Integration of custom-built components into SharePoint's multi-user environment
  • Implementation of automation tools for SharePoint and Nintex
  • Design and development of a drag-and-drop editor for custom page layouts using HTML, CSS, TypeScript, and Gridstack.js
  • Integration of SOAP and REST services
  • Reading and processing Excel files with Python
  • Quality assurance with Python unit tests

Challenges

The central challenge was providing a freely configurable layout system alongside SharePoint's standard layouts without restricting its built-in functionality. The drag-and-drop editor gives page creators maximum flexibility while keeping SharePoint's native features fully intact.

The client also wanted a programmatic way to quickly assess the status and content of created pages. SharePoint was extended with additional logic and visual components to enable a fast overview of the knowledge base.
